Positive Impacts Of The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

India is no doubt a beautiful country, but it also needs to be a cleaner! The recent initiative; Swach Bharat Abhiyan led by the Indian Government has initiated a wave of action-oriented cleanliness in the country.

Let us look at the various dimensions of this programme!

On 2nd October 2014, marking the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, PM Modi launched this crucial programme and addressed the nation to come together for this cause. During the launch, he also stated that “a clean India would be the best tribute India could pay to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150-birth anniversary in 2019.”

The primary goals behind this programme were to provide sanitation facilities to every family, including toilets, solid and liquid waste disposal systems, promote overall village cleanliness, supply safe and adequate drinking water supply and restore the overall hygiene of every village and city. More than just a governmental programme, PM Modi gave it a face of a campaign and made it all-inclusive. He promoted participation from everyone, and this made the Clean India movement the biggest step taken till date. On the day of the campaign launch, about 3 million government employees, school and college students, and many more people had participated in the event to make it globally popular and inspire the public to participate in the movement.

Other than this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also nominated the name of nine eminent personalities from domains like business industries, sports, and Bollywood in order to promote and represent the clean India campaign.

Following are the results of some surveys from the public regarding the campaign which will help you give a clearer idea of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan:

  1. 18% people stated that the public toilets in their cities have improved after Swachh Bharat
  2. 32% people believe that Swachh Bharat has made the students aware of cleanliness and overall civic sense
  3. 22% believe that municipalities have become more responsive to complaints regarding garbage collection, and street cleaning
  4. 50 lakh household toilets have been constructed in the country
  5. The ‘Swachhta App’ (A mobile app developed by the government) has recorded 8.1 million users and 13.1 million complaints, among which about  90% are resolved, according to the ministry

In short, the Swachh Bharat has now started showing its positive impact mainly in urban India and also has some positive developments in the semi-urban areas.

Problems and Solutions of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

The problems like water availability, unawareness, public reluctance, massive population, unavailability of infrastructure in rural areas and so on; are some challenges in the path of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The solutions to these problems can be addressed through more and more awareness, efficient infrastructure, prompt responses from government to public grievances and proper penetration of sanitary services.

Conclusion

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is one of the most productive and essential steps taken by Narendra Modi after coming to office. Especially rural India can get a substantial boost through this campaign.

We at Deshpee fully support Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and also try to make a little contribution too through an activity named ‘Treks For A Cause’. Connect with us today to learn more about it!
